On Preservation Breeding: Because Much Is Expected of Those Trusted With Much

Kitten IMG 8286I get several inquiries every month from people identifying as breeders asking the question, “Do you sell breeding cats?” The answer is “YES!”

We welcome breeder inquiries with a “Preservation Breeder” mindset for general inquiries regarding our kittens. Preservation Breeders work to preserve the essence of the Bengal; from the wild look, to the breed standard, preserving the history of the breed without sacrificing the health of the Bengal. They do this through written standards, participation in breed advancement through science and workgroups, practicing appropriate ethics and following the rules of registration for the cat within the respected organization.

With inquiries, we appreciate the following information to determine if you are a good fit to work with us. We may ask for the following:

  • Your name, address, phone number, and cattery website
  • Copy of your TICA cattery registration
  • Name and contact number for your mentor, mentoring cattery’s website
  • Names and registrations for your breeding cats and pedigrees
  • Copy of your current kitten contract (blank) for a pet kitten.
  • Copies of your breeding cat(s) genetic testing.
  • Copies of your breeding cat(s) current HCM screening.
  • Copies of your breeding cat(s) color testing.
  • A paragraph outlining your interest in our cats, your health, nutrition and selection processes for your cattery. Include your breeding goals, how long you have been breeding, treatment of intact cats and socialization processes.

Once we have prescreened and verified applications, we clarify goals and decide if you are a good fit for our cats. Often times we do have restricted contracts in place with our trusted breeding partner catteries so not every kitten we produce will be able to go to a breeding program.
